Application
Propylene glycol and glycerol as well as practically non-toxic in small and medium doses. Propylene glycol is a feedstock for various chemical compounds. From it are acetol, methylglyoxal, dimethyl, lactic acid, and various drugs. A large proportion of propylene produced is consumed for the production of saturated and unsaturated polyester resins.
Propylene glycol is used as well:
- in the manufacture of plastics,
- in the manufacture of cosmetics, as a water-retaining agent, solvent, humectant and essential oils,
- in the pharmaceutical industry
- in the food industry as a component in itself as a food sweetener.
Propylene glycol solutions are used as refrigerants in refrigeration and heat transfer in heating systems in enterprises associated with the manufacture and storage of food, etc.
