Application
Formic acid is used
- as a preservative and antibacterial agent in the procurement of food, as formic acid slows down the process of decay and disintegration, so hay and silage treated with formic acid, persist longer.
- mordant in dyeing wool,
- for pest control in the beekeeping
- as a solvent in some chemical reactions, such as bleach for tanning leather, etc.
- In laboratories use liquid decomposition of formic acid to generate carbon monoxide, etc.
